The Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) has been engaged in an annual exercise involving its commodity groups. Every year between the months of July and October the commodity groups convene and hold their Annual General Meetings (AGM). The event provides an opportunity for the commodity groups during the year and to decide on initiatives that they would like to undertake for the benefit of their members and the industry. The first AGM was held by the Dairy and Beef Producers’ Association followed by Barbados Sheep Farmers Inc and then the Barbados Pig Farmers’ Association followed by The Barbados Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association and the last one held was the Barbados Apiculture Association.

The Associations met and selected their executives to manage their affairs for the 2021 – 2022 financial year. It is of note that we continue to see younger individuals and coming through to represent the organisation on the Boards. This brings new thinking and new ideas in an ever changing and challenging world. We will be introducing the various new members at a later stage and certainly would encourage your feedback on any issues of concern. The last group to hold an AGM is the Barbados Egg and Poultry Producers’ Association which is scheduled for October 2nd 2021 and the venue is the Radisson Hotel. It is expected that arrangements will be made to facilitate streaming on Zoom and Facebook. In the case of the BAS the Annual General Assembly will be held on October 23rd and it is expected that the Prime Minister will deliver the Feature Address.
